Myra KeplingerHappy 100th Birthday -
Myra Keplinger was born in Delta, Colorado, April 27, 1907. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a major in psychology. She worked many years as a Personnel Director for Goodwill Industries in the San Francisco, Chicago and Denver offices. After her retirement, she joined the US Peace Corp. In March, 1962, after basic training in Puerto Rico, she worked in Peru Myra Keplingerfor two years. When her service in the Peace Corp ended, she returned to Bolivia and Argentina to help with the translation of the New Testament into the Quechua Indian dialect. She worked with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Her travels have included Alaska, Venezuela, Hong Kong and Bangkok, the Caribbean, Europe, and Canada. A trip of a lifetime was a visit to the Holy Land in 1994. She has remained active in church and community work. She has blessed many of us with cards, poems, and writings of her memories. It was a great honor to celebrate her 100 years of life with friends at Community Presbyterian. Some stories of her adventures were read from her journals, which she had written from memory when she learned how to use a computer when she was only 90!

Annual Rummage SaleRummage and Bake Sale -
Our All Church Rummage and Bake Sale was held Saturday, April 21, and made $907! Here members serve coffee and sell baked good to customers as part of the fund raiser. If you didn't get around to start cleaning out those cupboards and closets this time, remember next time we can always use furniture, small kitchen appliances, pots, pans, dishes, clothing, especially children's clothing, linens and other household good. Also chairs, tables, desks, bicycles, lawn mowers, etc. Unfortunately, we are unable to take large appliances, such as refrigerators, stoves and ovens, or computers or computer accessories.

CPC decorated tree Festival of Tress
The 16th annual Festival of Trees achieved extraordinary success this year, bringing in a record-breaking $125,000 to benefit Opportunity House, Vacaville's homeless shelter. Money is raised at the festival by having people or groups decorate and donate trees for purchase via auction. CPC was well represented throughout the festival, with Kay Buchanan as a co-chair, the CPC Bell Ringers playing for the Gala the night before the festival opened, CPC decorated tree baked goods provided and sold, a donated CPC Christnas tree with the theme "Victorian Yuletide Christmas" decorated by Karen Seiden,Georganne Gebers, Norma Meador and Betty Heise, and CPCers manning booths, selling tickets. The large decorated trees brought in about $34,000, the opening Gala( held the night before) brought in about $40,000, and bake sales and donations combined for another $45,000. Our thanks to everyone who participated, visited and supported this worthwhile project!

2006 CPC Mission to Nicaragua
Smiling childrenNew sewing machinesIn August ’06, Community Presbyterian Church began a ministry with the people of Nicaragua. A team of 6 from CPC went on a mission trip to Nicaragua and started by visiting a church service in Managua and distributing Bibles there. We then moved on to Masaya (about 35 miles to the Southeast) to replace the roof on a Christian teaching center, lead a Children’s Ministry (to over 60 children!), conduct 3 health clinics, and teach a class to pastors on “The Gospel of John”. We also visited the Las Flores barrio outside of Masaya, distributed clothing, put on a medical clinic there, and provided more children’s ministry. The work was exhausting but wonderful. We built relationships and provided ministry not just “for” the people there, but “with” them. We connected with two Presbyterian Churches and pastors who are in desperate need of assistance and have helped the most needy to start a sewing co-operative. Three brand-new (treadle) sewing machines were delivered, dedicated and put to work in September enabling church members to earn a living for their families. We are looking forward to maintaining the relationships that we have built, seeing fruit come from the labors that we shared in there, and returning to work alongside of our dear brothers and sisters there once again.

karaokelecture Annual Women's Retreat
The annual Women's retreat was held on September 23 & 24. Over 30 women from CPC, plus women from other congregations, met in The Angela Center in Santa Rosa for a wonderful time of fellowship, hearing from the Word, music, great food and relaxation. Michelle Rayburn was our guest speaker this year. She a writer, speaker and musician from Wisconsin and gave a truly inspiring presentation on Psalms 139 and it's personal meaning to us. We opened and closed with prayer, did a lot of singing during the lecture. We also did a lot of signing, karaoke style, for entertainment in the evening, and Lisa Wright even brought along her viola and treated us to a performance. A truly wonderful time was had by all.

Vacation Bible school Vacation Bible School Vacation Bible School -
Vacation Bible School for 2006 was a week of celebrating God's children in a boisterous atmosphere of Bible stories, crafts, singing, snacks and games and new friendships. Suzy Mitchell was overall chairperson and a real joy to work with. About 45 children attended each day, and most of them were second grade and under, many from PEP (our daily preschool) and Mom's Day Out. Older kids were helpers with the teams led by adults. We thank the 25 adults and 15 teens and pre-teens who were with the children every day, inside and outside. I know I will forget someone if I list them all! Thank you, everyone. You are God's treasures.

luncheon Lavender & Lace - The church repeated a wonderful tradition of honoring all ladies over eighty years young with a luncheon entitled "Lanvender and Lace". Just one day before Mother's Day, Saturday, May 13th, the ladies of Dorcas Circle hosted a delightful lunch with entertainment, gifts and corsages. The only requirement for free lunch is to have reached the age of eighty.

Shut-in basketsShut-in baskets -
As they have traditionally done, the Deacons gathered on Palm Sunday to prepare easter baskets, complete with Easter Lilies to take to those members of our congregation who are unable to celebrate with us in the Sanctuary.

Tri-tip DinnerTri-Tip Dinner -
The youth sold tickets for the Tri-Tip Dinner held on March 26th. Tickets were at the "Mexico"table during social hour so that you can pre-purchase a whole Tri-Tip dinner to be picked up at the start of serving. During the dinner, the Mexico youth participants were auctioned off, as well as an exciting auction that sponsored the supplies needed for construction in Mexico.

flamingos Got Flamingos?
Thanks to all who participated in the "Flamingo Flocking" fundraiser. It sounded like the youth and all those who paid to "Flock" someone had lots of fun with this. Approximately $1,800 was raised so far. They are still working on some orders, because they will try to be sneaky when they put them in your yards. You can still send the flock if you wish to do so, or if you wish to do so at anytime during the year, the cost will remain the same ($50) and the proceeds will continue to go towards the youth's mission fund!!! See Jon Sib, any youth group member, or the church office for information.

Spaghetti Dinner and Basket Raffle - Our Spaghetti Dinner and Basket Raffle was held the first week of November. We want to thank everyone who was involved with this event. You all came to eat, donate items for dinner and raffle baskets, purchase raffle tickets and the start to finish work involved in having a successful dinner/fundraiser. The profit was $1,500! This is an annual even so we'll see you next year about the same time.
